Managing E-Waste: Small Business and Consumer Solutions

By IERC

Greetings all,

With the holiday season comes gift-giving, and in many cases, the replacement of old electronics. Thankfully, Southern California Public Radio has just published a convenient guide for managing such e-waste., hitting nearly of all the major points dead on, including…

  • Simply use your electronics as long as you can instead of upgrading every chance you get. To the right is how my last phone looked before it stopped working, forcing me to upgrade
  • Fix your broken electronics. iFixit offers free fix-it manuals so you can make your gadgets last longer. The site was specifically was created to help address the growing e-waste problem.
  • Sell or donate your working but unused electronics to a nonprofit — or Craigslister — who can put it to good use.

…and many others. Be sure to check out the whole article here.

Too, BusinessHeroes.Co.Uk – a website focused on publishing helpful articles relevant to small business – has just published a brief e-waste management guide for small businesses.

In it, they give a brief outline of the electronics waste problem and the ways in which we struggle to properly dispose of it. Most importantly, however, is that the article goes on to discuss the responsibility of the business itself to safely manage the waste, as well as offers suggestion as to how to go about doing so.
